...The Brotherhood of the Ardéchois vine stock was born out of a simple fact. All the Ardéche viticulture had undergone a spectacular upheaval, just as much in terms of technology as in its human element. The vine growers became aware of the importance of their know-how, but also, for most of them, the finality of their product and its promotion...
Thus a group of people around Louis Delichères, who had himself worked so hard for this change, who had come to the wine profession from the fields of sciences, arts and communication, decided to make people aware that, born on their land centuries ago Ardéche viticulture had just reached a new level, one full of promise...
The Brotherhood was founded on 12th June 1986. Their first intent: “To defend and show to others the wines of southernmost Ardéche”, to better inform people of the effort made by the winemakers, to promote the wines, to hold gatherings of the chapters, to participate to different cultural and artistic events in order to spread the word of the vines and wines of Ardéche.
The seat of the Brotherhood is the cityhall of Vogüé, the venue for the annual general chapter meeting is the castle, on the second Saturday of December.
The capes of the members of the Brotherhood are blue with yellow lining, the colours of the region, and on the left-hand-side is the Occitan cross. Their crest shows a muleteer. Their motto is : "Satisfaction surpasses riches". Their rallying cry is :
"Cep Ardéchois, the wine of joy, the Vivarois wine, shut up and drink!." |
